Behind the Camera

“OMG!!! I absolutely love that picture!”
Said to me by a bride following her perfect wedding on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay. Photographers live for those moments! Here’s a secret… photography is a passion, I dare say, an addiction. Some photographers are all about the gear, while others are on a quest to capture elusive images with whatever gear they have.
Here at East Beach Photography, I’m looking to find the gems, those “OMG” images whether it’s at a wedding, engagement session, family portrait or sporting event. I can’t help it. Must be a part of my DNA. I’ve also traveled the world, earned a master’s degree in geography from Arizona State University, once lived a few doors down from Jim Morrison’s father, sailed from California to Hawaii on a 41 foot sloop, drove (with white knuckles) over the 7,000 foot high Tizi n’Tichka pass in Morocco, and sat in the captain’s dining room on the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Eagle talking to Alex Haley about the book he’d just finished writing called, Roots: The Saga of an American Family.
Why is this important, you ask? In selecting a photographer it isn’t what camera equipment they have but their life experience and reasons for taking photographs. I understand ”once in a lifetime” moments. I appreciate that you can never actually revisit your life stories, except through the memories you make and the pictures you take.
So, I’m not going to tell you I thrive on coffee (Grande Red Eye Bold, please!), muffulettas, and the movie Shawshank Redemption (Zihuatanejo – I was there before the movie). I will tell you that if you want “OMG” images (lots of them) of your wedding, portrait or event, let’s talk!
How about Starbucks…my treat!
