5th Annual St. Jude Peninsula Spring Fling

The 5th Annual St. Jude Spring Fling has become one of the Peninsula’s “mark your calendar” events for adults and children alike. The event on May 19th at the Virginia Living Museum benefits St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital .

Headline entertainment will be Grant Austin Taylor and Aria Summer Wallace. East Beach Photography provided the cover image for their performance poster. It’s going to be a great show! Don’t miss it!

Virginia Beach Color Me Rad

To be honest, when my wife said I should come and photograph the “Color Me Rad” event last weekend I would have been content staying home asleep. That would have been a big mistake!

Oh my Word! There must have been 5,000 people there and all roads leading to the Sportsplex in Virginia Beach were backed up with a zillion cars.

I got some cool shots and then Matt Ward, the owner and coordinator of Color Me Rad, called out to me and asked, “do you want to go up in the lift”? How could I pass that up…amazing…like being a rock star for a moment!

Teenapalooza 2012

If I had to choose between photographing weddings or band concerts, I really couldn’t decide. Both events are challenging…low light, fast action, no repeats! And at the end of the evening I really look forward to coming back and seeing what I captured.

Here are a few from this year’s Teenapalooza event. For those photogs out there, you’ve got to appreciate the amount of post work that was done. Aperture now has brushable adjustments so reduce noise where you want and brush in some definition and vibrancy without messing up skin tones…got to love it!

So, back to what I was saying….concerts or weddings? Answer: Both!

The Best of the ECSC 2011

All the best images taken by East Beach Photography at last year’s East Coast Surfing Championship are now posted online in the surfing gallery. Can’t wait for this year’s event which will be the ECSC’s 50th anniversary. Now if only there can be some hurricane swells and it be rated again as a 4-star (or higher!) ASP event!

Teenapalooza 2012

East Beach Photography will be covering Teenapalooza again this year. Last year’s event was at the Sandler Center which has amazing lighting but is a bit overwhelming in size. This year’s show will have many of the same great musicians as last year but will be at The Jewish Mother at Hilltop in Virginia Beach.

Years ago, I used to go clubbing in Georgetown and enjoyed the music because of the intimacy of the smaller clubs. I think you’ll find that The Jewish Mother is like that and great food, drink and, in this case, the best youth musicians in Hampton Roads.

So get your tickets and see you there!

Courtney, Max and Maddy

There is nothing more warming for a photographer than to process portraits from a summer session in the winter. Usually, proof selections are made within a month or so but Courtney and Max had their minds (and hands) full with Maddy so selections were not made until the holidays and now here we are in winter. So, it’s been fun processing great photos with that perfect summer light and leaves on the trees that are green. But, in a few minutes Super Bowl kicks off and sorry you guys, time out for the rest of tonight to watch the game!

A wonderful voice in the sea of Hampton Roads musicians is Bria Kelly. Last week an article on Bria appeared in the Pulse section of the Virginian-Pilot. The image was captured by East Beach Photography at last year’s Teenapalooza concert at the Sandler Center.

One of the most satisfying moments for a photographer is to see their work in print! And what’s even better is you can come out and see Bria, and other great local musicians, at this year’s Teenapalooza event in March!
